The Roots & Rivers Kids Summer Program is a wellness and arts program designed to create a culture of wellness and empowerment for kids ages 5 - 10 years old. During these FOUR weeks, our kids will explore their ever-changing worlds through four lenses:

  • Community & Environment: Kids explore their relationship to our local social, cultural and physical environment while developing civic engagement and stewardship.

  • Mindful Movement: Kids learn mindfulness, develop self-awareness and self-soothing techniques through yoga, breath-work, and expressive movement.

  • Writing & Arts: Kids will be guided in creating four individual art pieces, one group installation, and a written work.

  • Applied Skills: Kids will produce an Art Exhibit for an end-of-summer socially distant recital for presentation to their families from the invitation, to design and installation to the event.

This year our curriculum will be firmly planted in our current realities.  Participants will be reintroduced to socializing and will learn new considerations around socializing and sharing space.  We will take every opportunity to address the personal, social, and environmental aspects of this current pandemic.  We will discuss relevant social justice themes and all lessons will be delivered through fun, engaging, STEAM-driven, community-based projects.

COVID-19 Changes

The current pandemic has powerfully informed our offering.  Program size is strictly limited to a maximum of 16 participants.

  • Activities will be executed to encourage mindfulness around hygiene and personal space.

  • Participants will be divided into groups and spread across all three studios.

  • Both our facilities and operations have been updated to reflect COVID-19 concerns.

  • Participating families will be asked to renew their commitment to social distancing measures for the duration of the program.

Other changes to our program:

  • This year's program will include daily walks to local parks and community gardens, but will not include any trips that require the use of public transportation.

  • Families will need to provide a lunch, two small snacks, and a refillable water bottle daily.

  • Before and aftercare will be available daily from 8A - 930A and from 430P - 6P. Participants can be dropped off as early as 8A and must be picked up before 6P. Late pick-up fees apply for children picked up after 6P. Before and aftercare must be paid in advance.
